TSC’s Mad Hatter’s Tea Party Themed Entertainment

THE CONCEPT

A lively afternoon tea celebratory sing with Alice in Wonderland themed touches, short readings, and a mix of choir songs and solos/small groups. We’ll have a White Rabbit, Queen of Hearts and Mad Hatter in costume with the choir in hats and using easy props.

THE GIMMICKS / GAMES

We’ll have some fun ‘ALICE’ touches and these will be explained and distributed round the group.

DRESS CODE

You will need to wear striking PLAIN black and white outfits. Ideally block colours or in bold checkerboard. You’ll have a MAD HATTER HAT handed to you to wear.

PROP SUGGESTION - FOR SOME SINGERS TO BRING A CUP AND SAUCER WITH THEM (Great to use in instrumental break in the song “DREAM A LITTLE DREAM OF ME”) -

CHARACTERS (mad hatter, rabbit or queen) will have a teapot to go along pouring..

ORDER


SET UP: music stand left and right to side / microphones & stand / Table for mad hatter set up with props / Line of chairs ideally to left and right facing in to singers / mad hatter large wicker basket to store props.

OTHER PROPS. - White Rabbit Hats and Carrot (trick) / Mad Hatter playing cards, umbrella with confetti, oversized cup and saucer / 2 or 3 teapots / Reading book with butterflies ready / Queen’s oversized playing cards for game, tray of jam tarts & playing card roses

Singers to enter with their cups and saucers - FOLDERS BLACK

SONG: “Welcome to Wonderland” - Choir (HAND ACTIONS on “underneath the stars'“ right hand & “heavy heart” same hand and tilt forwards)

SONG: “Dream a Little Dream of Me” - Choir - Start sway from “stars fading” to end

READING: Extract from Alice in Wonderland - with reading book prop

SOLO: “Everything Stops for Tea” - Mad hatter solo with choir on the chorus

SONG: “When you’re smiling” - Choir (SWAY)

SONG: “English Tea” - Choir (w/ Mad Hatter on the Kazoo & Singers with cups of tea) - HAND ACTIONS on “miles and miles” right hand stretched out & then to forehead on “stretching past the willow tree” and then cup ear on “listen most attentively”

RABBIT MAGIC - Trick (using 3 x of the choir selected in the moment)

SONG: “Daydream Believer” - Choir

SONG: “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road” - Choir

If chairs are available then singers now sit down or stand in 2 lines to side (behind the chairs) facing inwards to soloists and side on to audience.

SOLO: “Tea for Two” - Soloist

QUEEN CARD GAME - Higher & Lower game (using 5 x of the choir selected in the moment) - the white rabbit and mad hatter to be out in the audience to get answers.

SOLO: “Don’t Dream it’s Over” - Duet

Choir now all come back to the centre with the trio at the front and choir surrounding them closely behind.

SOLO: “Que Sera Sera” - 3 x soloists with choir joining on chorus

MAD HATTER FUN - Umbrella and then edible cards

SONG: “Bring me Sunshine” - Choir

SONG: “Young at Heart” - Choir - The white rabbit to conduct from amongst the audience

CLOSE: by the Queen of Hearts then choir bow and exit

DREAM A LITTLE DREAM - This has fun “da daaa-ing’ and whistling on the end so please FREESTYLE this to finish! LOL

Also - lower voice sections to remain on the tune through the SECOND CHORUS where there are a couple of Twiddley Bits probably more suited to Higher voice sections and also gives a little variation to the song.
