The Sound Collective Books & Banter Book Club
Our book club is a thriving hub of discussion bringing together a group of singers from across our choir locations on the 2nd Monday monthly in THE CRICKETERS pub in Danbury (cost £2 pp when you attend to cover the room hire)
The group is set up so that it rotates around members to choose a book that all others then read before the next meeting. That person then leads the discussion at the next meeting (with questions off the internet etc) but if you don’t want to put forward a book and lead a meeting that is fine too. Book choices are varied and there is no judgement as it’s not set up to choose something you’ve read and think others will like. It’s often the first time you’ve read it too so who knows what you’ll think also and some great discussions can come from bad reads so every cloud!
To express an interest in joining this club please contact NICK on EMAIL nspenceley@aol.com or GOSIA gosiaedwards@aol.com
There is also a thriving Facebook page for this group with book recommendations and more. The club also arranges a summer and Christmas meal out plus ad-hoc Author discussion trips and lunches.
If you love to read then you’ll love this club however there is also no expectation that you read every month and attend.
You can dip in and out as life allows and the Facebook page includes event invitations so you can let the rest know that you won’t be at the next meeting.
Since being founded in 2019 by Emma in Lockdown this book club was impressively overseen and organised by Baddow Soprano Amanda.
However, following an exciting announcement Amanda has stepped back and handed over the running to Gosia and Nick in 2023/24 due to her appointment as a Carnegie Judge representing the Eastern region for the 2024 and 2025 medals! The Carnegies are the 'Oscars' of children's literature with a medal for outstanding literature and a medal for illustration. We are very proud and thank Amanda and look forward to still seeing her, albeit on an adhoc basis now.
AMANDA:
“For the 2024 medals, I'll need to read around 165-170 books by November and the same for the following year and I know I’ll need to concentrate on these and step back. I've absolutely loved our reading adventures together over the last 2 years, so there is some sadness as well as excitement. I hope there will be lots more bookish adventures in 2023! Love to all” x
